Spring was in full bloom at Ridgeway Elementary’s Family Reading Night!  Our students had a blast diving into new stories, tackling fun activities, and getting their hands dirty planting flowers and making delicious dirt cups. Mothers and sons had a great time at the Mother/Son event this past weekend. The sons danced their hearts away as the Mothers stood in awe and even got to cherish these moments spent with the ones they love. 

 

We are currently reading "Because of Winn-Dixie" as our whole group novel study. In the book, the main character makes many new friends all because of her dog named Winn-Dixie. Along the way, she makes friends with an elderly librarian whose great-grandfather was a candy maker. He had created a candy with a secret ingredient to make people recall something sad. Our kids wrote about a candy that they would create with their own secret ingredients and told what would happen if someone ate it. They came up with very creative ideas! I was so proud of their writing and creativity!

 

Students worked in pairs today to find the best pieces of text evidence to support two claims. They had great discussions as they explained their thinking. It was a great way to prepare for our final writing piece that will wrap up our novel study.
